About this deal

I had understood that although this is No3 in a series, it also works as a stand alone book. Having read it, I'm not convinced. Maybe if I'd read Nos 1-2, I would have given it more stars. As for a night train from Marrakech to Fes. While it would be amazing! Sadly, an overnight train to Fes does not exist. About the Train Ride from Marrakech to Fes Last but certainly not least you can opt to rent a car and drive to Fes yourself! Definitely a road trip for the memory books, don’t ya think?!

Night Train to Marrakech - Dinah Jefferies, Author

Dinah Jeffries has the ability to paint a picture with words, I could smell the lemons and the jasmine, I could smell the spices in the souks, I could see the rich colours of the silks in the market place, I could see the beautiful sunrises and sunsets on the terracotta walls of the Kasbah. The author has obviously researched her subject well and it shows. The seductive colours, sights, sounds and aromas of Marrakech, with a hidden, darker side, are so powerfully evoked that you are instantly transported there’ LIZ TRENOW This is the final book in Dinah Jeffries “Daughters of War” trilogy and as ever was a thoroughly enjoyable read. The train that runs from Marrakech to Fes is the Al Atlas Train, which is one of two trains that run in Morocco. The second train, Al Boraq, is the fastest train in Africa running at speeds of 300 kph (186 mph). To catch a ride on the fastest train in Africa, you’ll need to head to popular Moroccan cities like Casablanca, Kenitra, Rabat, and Tangier. The same goes for Gare Tanger Ville. The station is in a nice area away from the medina, and the interior looks more like it belongs in Abu Dhabi than Morocco.

It is set in Morocco in the sixties when there was a good deal of political tension of which I knew very little. So it was interesting to learn from the narrative about this era and country. The author’s research has really paid off as the descriptions are very vivid. The sights and smells and life in the souks and Riads are so well written that it is easy to imagine yourself transported there. It was also refreshing to have a romantic love story about a couple in their seventies. As she delves deeper into the past she also exposes the seedy side of Moroccan underlife and meets people she really doesn't want to associate with. This was a novel full of intrigue danger and excitement set against political and historical turmoil amidst a lush, exotic panorama of Moroccan life.I didn’t realise that this was the third part of a trilogy. I had read the first of the three novels but not the second in the series but this did not affect my enjoyment. It’s a good stand alone novel. On the day of your departure date to Fes, you’ll need to make your way to the Marrakech Train Station. Built-in 2008, the Marrakech Train Station is located west of the Marrakech Medina, about a 10-15 minute taxi ride. In 1985, the sudden death of Dinah Jefferies’ fourteen year old son brought her life to a standstill. She drew on that experience, and on her own childhood spent in Malaya during the 1950s to write her debut novel, The Separation. The guns piled high on the hall table when the rubber planters came into town for a party, the colour and noise of Chinatown, the houses on stilts, and the lizards that left their tails behind.
